"The Next Big Thing"

Due to the recent craze caused by the unveiling of a new line of products created by the Apple Corporation; namely the Iphone, Ipod Touch, and the Ipad; it is my observation that we have become obsessed with pursuing the next big thing. We watch in amazement as friends, neighbors, and loved ones stand in line for hours to purchase the latest gadget. We spend thousands and thousands of dollars just to have… you guessed it “the next big thing”.

What do you suppose our fascination is with having the next big thing? Why do we constantly look for what is on the way, when we haven’t even stopped to appreciate what it is we already possess? Perhaps it is a metaphor of our times; a sign to show us we have become a people, who are perpetually dissatisfied with life? Thus we are caught in a never-ending cycle of so-called upgrades. Working tiredly we try desperately to improve our relationships, financial status, lifestyle and ministries. However, we must conclude that our greatest efforts can only achieve a cosmetic, or temporary fix.

You got the new job, the new spouse, the new car and the new house yet and still you find yourself waiting and longing for the next big thing. Ever wonder what is causes you to continue your search for something bigger, something better, something greater? I’m glad you asked. Dear friend, it's your heart. Whenever you get to the place you overlook the blessings of today to reach for the blessings of tomorrow it is because your heart needs an upgrade.

Psalms 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Then Lamentations Chapter 3 tells us “It is because of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning”. Every day spent in God’s presence is an opportunity to improve your life. Instead of asking God to send you the next big thing pray like David prayed in Psalms 51:10, Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit with in me. You will never get where you are going until you learn to appreciate where you are.

Satisfied with Jesus,
Rev. Melva

Welcome to My Blog

I decided to create this Blog after talking with a friend and spending time with some of the most talented women I have ever had the opportunity to meet in one place. The most encouraging thing was the authentic support I received from these women. They inspired me to put my love of writing to use as I prepare to author my first book. Because this Blog was birthed out of encouragement it is my goal to write articles which will inspire, encourage and thrust you into a deeper place with God. I look forward to our time together and sincerely pray you will be blessed.
